I’m a fail whale of a travel blogger.
I have a pretty unhealthy obsession of skimming through travel blogs, which just ends up fueling all the leftover wonderlust that has accumulate since the last flight out. I am pretty well posted on where my favourite travel bloggers are. And of course, my over zealous self gets into flight searching overdrive.
It’s difficult. Gatal.
With everything planned this year, of course, I have reason to feel so incredibly uneasy sitting still. It took me 3 years of architecture hell to decide that I can’t possibly continue my studies without taking a long enough break for me to miss the studio. I need to miss the studio. I need to miss lugging around A1 paper.
So now, I’ve decided to dive back into the blogging community.
My first attempt at a travel blog failed miserably, since I didn’t have the energy or the time to keep up with such a stupid travel blog domain.
Alright, I’ll keep you posted if I do.

A moment that made me realize how fortunate I have it all-
When the uncle from the restaurant opposite from Backhome sent my Mongolian Fried Rice even though he was busy and without me asking for it.

“And I told him, I said: “One day you’re going to miss the subway because it’s not going to come. One of these days, it’s going to break down and it’s not going to come around and everyone else will just wait for the next one or will take the bus, or walk, or run to the next station: they will go on with their lives. And you’re not going to be able to go on with your life! You’ll be standing there, in the subway station, staring at the tube. Why? Because you think that everything has to happen perfectly and on time and when you think it’s going to happen! Well guess what! That’s not how things happen! And you’ll be the only one who’s not going to be able to go on with life, just because your subway broke down. So you know what, you’ve got to let go, you’ve got to know that things don’t happen the way you think they’re going to happen, but that’s okay, because there’s always the bus, there’s always the next station…you can always take a cab.”

And just as I got back, I got a postcard from the same place.

I ended 2011 on almost a perfect note. 2011 left me with a glimmer of hope for 2012. I felt confident coming into 2012, to the point of knowing that I’ll be doing incredible things this year. That maybe I’ll be a balanced human being, good chakra, balanced zen, lower center of gravity. I went in to 2012 thinking that I’ll manage to do it all. I was expecting fireworks, romance, hopes of a good career, time for my loved ones, time for myself.
I can’t judge the whole year based on the first quarter of the year. I have so much ahead that I know I have nothing to worry about.
You have nothing to worry about, Roslyn.

Favourite piece of furniture:
The Mies van de Rohe Chair (a.k.a The Barcelona Chair)
The simplicity of this piece of furniture is pure class. I don’t mean to sound heavily pretentious, but I’ve secretly always wanted a leather recliner that lets me cross my legs on while sipping on some unnecessarily expensive coffee that makes me look even more pretentious with some plush cushion wrapped under my left arm (I’m so sorry I’m so pretentious today).
Favourite Pen:
Faber Castell Ball SS 5 2466 S-Fine 0.5
I use up these pens extremely quickly. Maybe it’s because of the leaky ink. Whatever it is, these pens have to be stored horizontally because the ink just clots at the tip and you’ll be left with clumpy black smudges. Never the less, these are beautiful, super cheap and handy pens that have followed my journal and sketch book to many places.
I could also be a cheapskate. Maybe that’s why I buy them.
Favourite designer item I’ve been saving up to purchase:
Sennheiser Headphone px 100 ii
These babies are bloody beautiful and just fulfills all the requirements I need for headphones. I’m not completely particular about music quality, but I get really irritated when my earphones scratch the insides of my ear. I’ve been using my iPod earphones to listen to music all this while, and my ear has been developing a bad eczema problem. It might just be me, actually. But I think if god decides to grant me an extra RM500 in my monthly income, I will use it well by buying these babies to have for my gap year.
Favourite car:
Volvo XC-60
I enjoy anything that resembles the Haitian man in Heroes.
Favourite Poster:
Audrey.
I’ve been looking high and low for this poster of Audrey Hepburn. I love her so much, I feel like if she were alive, I’d probably try to live close to her to find even a tissue she blew into and I’d probably keep it in a glass jar with air purifiers and stuff.
Favourite Architect:
Rafael Moneo
I love this man so much. I fell for his work during my first year, after a presentation on Civic architecture. He’s an incredible architect (and lecturer) who designs solely to integrate with its surroundings and past history. He definitely isn’t a Santiago Calatrava, who finds means of defying gravity, instead he refers to the historical nature of the site and works from there. He plays with strange, and occasionally awkward angles as seen in The Cathedral of Our Lady of The Angels. He’s incredible. I’ve based so many projects on his work, I could be called a fan girl. Or a groupie. But, sadly, I think I did a terrible job in impersonating his previous work. My attempts have been at the most, fairly average, so I can’t say I would have made Mr Moneo proud. I would love to one day work with someone like him. His approaches, shadow play, material choices and strange inclines in his designs are something I personally imagine myself doing in the possible near future. So, yeh.
